The following programs have been awarded on a competitive basis, after evaluation by committees of international experts.

·          Computational Investigation of Viral Peptide Sequences: Insights on the Self-assembly of Peptide-based Nanostructures.” Duration 2 years (2010-2012), from the Cyprus Government, Funding: 85,000 euro.

·          CyTera: A multi-Teraflop computing Facility For Science and Technology in Cyprus”. Strategic Infrastructure Project (2009-2013). The project involves an international consortium of the University of Cyprus, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), USA, the Juelich Supercomputing center and the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME).

·          “Computational investigation of the salting-out effect with polarizable water models”. Supported through a fund for basic research by the A.G. Leventis Foundation (2006-2009). Funding:  125,000 Euro.

·          “Modification of the specificity of aminoacyl-tRNA syntethases by biomolecular simulations”. Supported through a fund for the “Support of young Cypriot researchers”, from the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation (2006-2009). Funding:  100,000 Euro.

·          “Study of the solvation of organic compounds in electrolyte solutions by molecular dynamics simulations”. Supported through a fund for the “Integration of young Cypriot researchers”, from the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation (2006-2007). Funding: 38,000 Euro.

·          “Redesigning the genetic code with biomolecular simulation methods”. Research funded under the program for “Cyprus – France Technology and Scientific Cooperation” (duration: 2004-2006; total budget 8,000 Euro).

·          Study of Compstatin, important inhibitor of the autoimmune system, with high-accuracy molecular simulations”. Supported through a fund for “Upgrade of Existing Infrastructure” from the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation (2004-2007). Funding: 40,000 CYP (69,600 Euro).

·          Study of the initial formation of amyloid fibers from peptides that influence the formation of type-II diabetes. Microscopic understanding with atomic-detail simulations”. Supported through a fund for the “Incorporation of young Cypriot researchers”, from the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation (2004-2005). Funding 12,000 CYP (21,000 Euro).

·          Repair of DNA by the protein DNA photolyase; Insights from molecular simulations and electron-transfer calculations”. Funded by the Government of Cyprus (2003-2006). Funding 60,000 CYP (104,500 Euro).

·          Regulation of Glycogen metabolism and oxidative repair of DNA by molecular association;  Insights from simulations and experiment ”. Supported through a fund for basic research by the A.G. Leventis Foundation (2002-2004). Funding 37,000 CYP (64,500 Euro).

·          Molecular Recognition and Rational Drug Design of new Drugs”. Research funded under the program for “Greece - Cyprus Technology and Scientific Cooperation” (2001-2003; total budget 10,000 CYP (17,400 Euro).

·           “From Strong Interactions to Molecular Recognition: Theoretical and Computational studies”. Funded by the Government of Cyprus (1996-2000). Funding 160,000 CYP (280,000 Euro).
